STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
d. Robert Wise, 1979
8 February 2009
I saw STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE in its initial release, 30 years ago. If anything, I was less of a Trekkie then than I am now. Nostalgia and the availability of the entire series on DVD has since given my inner Vulcan a huge pon farr for the original show.

Having nearly finished a chronological viewing of the original show last year - I'm bogged down in the morass of Season 3, of course - somehow STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE seemed like a logical next and final step. (I have no intention of indulging in the Next Generation spinoff and its spinoffs and its spinoffs' spinoffs.)
The film has not improved with age. However, I am not so blinded with disappointment now, and am better able to see what they might have been going for. But the extra clarity of vision only makes it worse. I liked the score this time! That's it.
