A short, very informative, Brother Buzz piece is up on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQmuGyX5i6s

The slanted eyebrows always creeped me out as a kid. Always made him look demented.

Thanks for this! I remember the demented eyebrows as well, and the be bobbing up and down on strings. I really remember that logo at the end they show at the conclusion of the video. I had no idea of the historical context of the concept, and the explanation at the end of why Brother Buzz was here, as given back in the 30s, was really cool. Thanks!

Hey there Tim:

Yeah, I had no idea myself how farback this went, or the strange elfin origins of Brother Buzz. This all reminds me of seeing the original versions of Kellog's Snap, Crackle and Pop. I can't remember the vintage of the print ad I came across, but I believe it was also something from the '30s. They also originated as forest sprites or elves. They were in a hollow tree, cooking Rice Krispies in a glowing cauldron, lit from below, with a definite olde world fairy tale vibe -something a bit darker than the friendly cartoons they evolved into. There's a European immigrant quality to both Buzz and the cereal sprites, something Brothers Grimm.

The Brother Buzz clips really set off some nostalgic flashes. I remember some of those images SO clearly.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed!
